xbox 720 plan leaked!

Microsoft is gearing up to launch an Xbox TV service for Christmas 2012, followed in 2013 by the next-generation games console, which will be called the Xbox 720
and feature Kinect v2. 

The console will also be compatible with Xbox TV and 3D. 

That’s all according to product specs that leaked out on the Scribd website over the weekend, before being removed.


The document purportedly has a 2010 date, suggesting that the Xbox TV and 720 product roadmaps have been in the planning for a while. Of course, things may have changed in the mean time and the next-gen Xbox is not likely to appear until more than a year from now. 

More might be revealed about Xbox TV soon, however, if the rumours of an imminent Microsoft tablet come to fruition this week. The cloud-based streaming service could appear on Windows PCs, Windows Phone, its games consoles and any other suitable devices, such as tablets. 

The company is also eyeing-up the possibility of delivering cloud-based Xbox media and gaming experiences to any screen, according to the leaked document. Microsoft has already revealed some work in this field with its SmartGlass project, announced at E3 earlier in June.



The next-gen console could also support 3D via Kinect 3D glasses, which the document shows are codenamed Fortaleza. It will allegedly work over Wi-Fi and – by 2014 – over 4G, where available. 

Kinect 2 technology will reportedly feature improved tracking, a better play space, dedicated processing and high definition.

In line with previous rumours, the Xbox 720 may have a Blu-ray optical drive and ‘always online’ broadband connectivity.

As expected, the processor will be significantly more powerful than the Xbox 360 (six times faster according to the leaked specs). Microsoft is said to be aiming for a $299 price point in the US for the console and Kinect 2 sensor.
